These photos were snapped during our recent trip to Costa Rica, celebrating a dear couple’s destination wedding a couple of weeks ago. The weather was insanely hot but insanely good and the wedding was like a day dream taken right out of a magazine. It was the first time that all our friends spent a vacation week together, along with our spouses and kiddies, we were so blessed with great company.
When it comes to travelling to hot climate (Costa Rica is just about 8 degrees north of the equator!), I often pack along several LWDs (little white dresses) with me. The white doesn’t tend to absorb as much sun, allowing the body to stay relatively cooler. I’ve come to accumulate a fair share of white dresses, but this white baby doll number from Joe Fresh is my recent favourite (and it’s under $50!).
You travelling anywhere soon?!
For those of you who are interested in visiting Costa Rica, I do recommend it! The people are friendly, everything is very well kept and clean. The weather is gorgeous and there is plenty to do. We stayed at the Hotel RIU Guancaste, an all-inclusive resort in the south region of Liberia. If you’re opened to spending a little bit more on your trip, I’ll recommend staying at the RIU Palace just next door. To give you an idea, our location was about a 2.5 hour drive from the rain forest, therefore, if you’re looking to tour the rain forest, you may want to consider staying in another region. In addition, I’ve heard that people much prefer to rent vacation homes rather than staying in a resort, I may consider this if we decide to visit again in the future.
For those of you who may be worried about Zika, trust me, I also had the same concern. I’ll share my observations, and please keep in mind I traveled there mid-April. It is considered dry season (they haven’t seen rain in 5 months), therefore, the mosquito population seemed to be quite low. However, I’ve been told that once it starts to rain, that may change. I was very careful to protect myself from mosquitoes, and sprayed repellent daily (with a higher concentration of DEET). I never ended up getting bit but as you know Zika may also be transmitted in other ways.
If you’re concerned about travelling to countries that have reported cases of Zika, be sure to consult your family doctor and make an informed decision. At the end of the day, there is a risk. We contemplated for weeks before making the decision to continue our travel plans, primarily because we’re thinking about starting a family. Ultimately, you’ll have to discuss the pros and cons and your comfort level, as well as your spouse’s.
Anyway, wherever your travels may bring you, I wish you a safe trip, and don’t forget to pack along your favourite LWD!
