I’ve been having so much fun this Summer season with my growing adventures! I’ve been making strides with some of the projects I set forth at the beginning of my Scotts® Gro Crew journey, and guess what, I’ve not yet to kill any or my plants!
Last month, I shared my tips on how to create a lush potted herb garden and to go one extra step, how to freeze and preserve them. I’ve been adding my herbs to so many great recipes since.
As for this month, my goal was to beautify the interior of my home, and thought it would only be appropriate to tackle an indoor project with the help of a premium Scotts® Miracle-Gro product. I debated between a few ideas such as an indoor terrarium or a simple potted succulent, but I wanted to go an extra step and add some extra colour with this indoor potted flower centerpiece.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Assorted flowers, cacti, and succulents
- Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix
- Decorative pot (mine was purchased from IKEA)
- Gloves, Gardening tools
- Rocks (optional)
STEPS:
Select a decorative pot / If the pot doesn’t have a drainage hole, fill the bottom with a layer of rocks to create air pockets / Fill pot about half full with potting mix / Loosen root ball, place each plant in pot / Add potting mix, press lightly until you’ve tightly packed that pot / Water, let drain. OPTIONAL: sprinkle decorative white stones to cover soil
When I was looking for the perfect plants to go into this centerpiece, I fell in love with the different colour variations of the succulents and the pink flowers. However, the succulents require less water than the flowers and may not last long-term due to over-watering. I recommend that you select your plants wisely depending on what type of centerpiece you’re looking to create and it’s shelf life.
On one other note, I will have to say that the flowers I selected requires full sun – therefore although I’ve created an indoor centerpiece, I’ve been bringing it outdoors daily for the much needed sun it requires and then later bringing back indoors to enjoy. Also remember that indoor environments tend to be dryer, so be sure to water your potted creation and give it some TLC.
I added a few other decorative elements to make my potted flower extra special and of course Instagram worthy! While I was once intimidated with growing plants and flowers (indoors or outdoors), I’ve really learned a lot from my #IGREWIT journey and I’ve honest reaped planty (get it?!) of benefits. I love having herbs on hand to enjoy and also surrounded by flowers all season long.
