What is your love story?
Everyone has a love story. And whether it has yet to be written, happily in progress, or a chapter has already ended, we can all agree that the journey of love, is a remarkable one.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share my love story with you, how I met my husband, and a few important lessons I’ve learned along the way with the hope to spread more love today!
I met Kyle when I was 28, at 3 am, tipsy, in an alleyway. Yes, in an alleyway. Both Kyle and I were leaving two adjacent bars and locked eyes in a dark narrow alleyway. We exchanged, from what I recall, a very brief encounter, and from that night onward, we began our now, seven year relationship. When Kyle called me on the very next day, I literally hung up on him. I was shocked that he called rather than texted, since the experience I had online dating at the time only involved countless days of texting before ever hearing the guy’s voice, if I’m lucky. Much later in our relationship, I came to a realization that his simple gesture of calling me, was a fundamental part of who he is, someone who values the importance of relationships and respect.
When I mustered the courage to call him back, I insisted that he’d take me out on a proper date (I barely considered a moonlit drunken encounter the best way to start any relationship). The very next day, we met for dinner and a movie. Every first date has a ‘moment”. Ours was the ripping of my jeans as I stepped into the cab we shared enroute. I almost died because my jeans teared resulting in a giant gap right down my back side! I was so embarrassed. When I finally clued him into what was going on, he let out a contagious laugh, held my hand, and proceeded to take me to purchase a new pair of jeans. I learned that day humour is a critical component of a successful and loving relationship.

You see, our love story is far from the stories portrayed in the movies that consists of overly electrifying and dramatic moments. Rather, our love story was built on many everyday, candid instants that make them so real and long-lasting. The best moments of our relationship are the ones spent together privately, at home cooking breakfast, binge watching Netflix or exploring new places on our travels.
I am no relationship expert, but to me, the key to a successful relationship is one that is driven by the concept of a partnership. Great partners are those that work together, they complement one another, they fill in each other’s gaps, they make each other whole. And a husband that will get up on Saturday mornings to make you eggs!
I’d love to hear about your love story and what you think makes a successful relationship! Whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day or not, Kyle and I wish you much love today and everyday!

This is SUCH a cute post! I’ve learned that the best relationships/the ones that last longest aren’t the plotline of a movie. We’re in the real world…why not have real love?
