Woohoo it’s finally denim jacket season and that makes me so happy! Denim jackets are perfect for the warmer season and they pair so well with just about anything (well besides more denim that is). I like the fact that they add an instant casual vibe to any summer dress.
This season, I went with a slightly unique option. I opted for a longer length style and also decided to add a few personal touches by customizing it! I promise, this DIY patchwork denim jacket couldn’t get any more dummy proof.

DIY Patchwork Denim Jacket
Many stores sell really cute patches. But if you’re looking for the best ones, I recommend visiting M&J Trimming in New York or online. Most of the patches I applied on this jacket were from them and they are super easy to put on as they are iron-on ready. When I was in New York last month, I unexpectedly stumbled across Wildflower + co. and purchased the large longhorn patch for the back of my jacket! They also carry SO many incredibly cute patches and other DIY supplies. Definitely check them out!
What You Will Need:
- Denim Jacket
- Iron
- Fabric Glue/Adhesive (optional)
- Assorted iron-on patches and appliques from M&J trimming. I recommend: embroidered metallic gold stars / gambling heart appliques / hashtag patch / over-it rainbow patch / evil eye patch / rose iron-on patch / hamsa applique
- Large Longhorn Patch
How to:
Pre-wash your garment prior to applying the patches in case it shrinks in the wash. Lay the jacket flat on a surface, heat up the iron to the highest setting. Place the patch in the desired spot, lay down a towel or cloth on top, and proceed to press iron with pressure over top. Let the iron sit in place for 30-60 seconds and repeat as desired. If you want to be extra secured, you can also touch up with fabric glue afterwards.
Customizing a denim jacket with these easy iron-on patches are so much fun and as you collect more, you can apply them overtime! That is what is so special about it! I first started with a few, and when I came across the longhorn patch, I had to have it! Since then, I’ve added a pizza and another star patch too!
