I’m often asked where I find inspiration for my DIY projects. The truth is, just about anywhere and more often than not, around ordinary objects laying around the house. I could be starring at a lemon or a book cover and it’ll spark a thought in my head for my next project.
I was brewing my Nespresso coffee one Saturday morning and as I was refilling my empty glass bonbonniere with my favourite capsules, the pastel coloured ones particularly stood out to me. They reminded me of beautiful and delicate Easter eggs.
With Elvazio and Vanizio as my main source of inspiration, I was on my way to create these pastel painted gold foiled Easter eggs! While I was painting these eggs, I thought it would also be fun to add an extra dose of pastel pink to my Nespresso latte – see, inspiration can come just about anytime and anywhere!
Keep reading to see the full how to on these Easter eggs and crafting your own unicorn-worthy pink latte!
Pastel Gold Foiled Easter Eggs
What you will need:
- Real eggs (hallowed out) or you can find plastic ones from the craft store which is what I used
- Watercolour paint (you will definitely need white to mix with)
- Water
- Paint brush
- Gold leafing kit
Steps: Mix your desired colours with a white base to achieve pastels / Dilute paint with your paint brush and water / Apply onto egg’s surface / Let stand to dry / Follow gold leafing kit to apply specs of gold designs
The beautiful thing about this DIY is that there is not prescribed way to approach it. The watercolour will spread randomly creating unique designs and patterns. No egg will look identical!
I’ve been seeing alot of colourful lattes on Instagram lately and while painting these eggs, I was tempted to make my own version of a pink latte creation. With the help my Aeroccino frother and some red food colouring, I was on my way!
After frothing my milk, I added 2-3 drops of red food colouring to it, creating a wonderful bright pink foaming concoction. I then topped my freshly brewed coffee with this mixture which formed beautiful swirls of pink and caramel on top. This is such a fun way to make your own ‘colour lattes’ at home and requires entire no skills at all! 🙂
I hope you’re as excited about these DIY Easter eggs and pink latte as I am! I encourage you open up your senses and allow inspiration to come to you! You never know where they may come from and what you may be compelled to create!
