Since I’ve been introduced to sailing this summer, I’ve been crazy about anything strips and just about everything with an anchor on it. I came across this tank from jcrew which I love but sold out by the time I went to buy it, so I decided to tackle my own version but also making it fall friendly. Read further for step by step easy instructions!
What you will need:
- a thin knit sweater or you can also use any type of type knit shirt (mine was old from banana republic, similar here)
- Aleene’s Jewel-It glue (you can purchase at a local art supplies store or here)
- Assorted sequins (I got mine from local dollar store!)
- A piece of paper
- Fabric marking pen
Begin by laying your sweater flat on your working surface then tape the sides of the sweater down. This is to make sure it stays in place. Also line the inside of your sweater with a piece of paper so it will prevent the glue to seep onto the back side of the sweater. Take your fabric market and draw the shape of your anchor as a guide to placing the sequins. I drew mine with a darker pencil, so it appears very faint on this image. I hope you can still make it out!
Start by applying a thin layer of glue, I suggest applying small amounts at a time to prevent the glue from drying prior to applying the sequins. I started from the top of the anchor and worked my way down.
Scoop a handful of sequins and applying sequins with a tweezer. I used an assorted of the same shade of colour to create more contrast. Continue your way down and fill in any gaps with sequins as needed. I overlapped the sequins rather then laying each on side by side. It will look more full with the overlapping.
You may find that as you start going over your drawn anchor shape with glue, you will want to make adjustments. I initially drew mine too small, so I drew a larger one with the glue, that is why it is important to use a fabric pencil so that it can be washed and removed.
Let the sequins set overnight, follow glue instructions for wash and wear and here is the final product!
Feel free to apply sequins to any shape! Please share your versions on my facebook page!
