I love seeing the emergence of custom-made clothing and accessories that is both affordable and can be done in the privacy of your own home. Custom, made-to-order garments have always either been a premium service at a specialized tailor or on the flip side, understood as something totally inexpensive done during your trip to Asia. What about the perfect balance of custom made premium items but not having to physically make a trip to the tailor or overseas?
Today, I’ve roundup four Made-to-Order online services that are both premium in quality and budget friendly.
1. Dress Mavens
Dress Mavens is a custom made dress service focused creating the perfect dress for the hard to fit, including petite and plus sizes. The steps are super duper simple. You first choose your dress style based on your body shape or preference (there are 10+ styles to choose from). Then proceed to design your dress, this is where you select colour, sleeves, length, and input your measures (don’t worry there is a step by step measuring guide). Once you’ve worked your magic, proceed to check out and expect your dress to arrive within 3-4 weeks. All dresses are priced at $249 and shipping is absolutely free across Canada and US.
I’ve actually just made my very own dress this week! I’ll be sharing my experience and the quality and fit of my dress specifically when I get the dress delivered to my door step in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see my lack of fashion design skills come to life! In the mean time check out some real dresses made by real women! Get 20% off your first order!
2. Indochino
Now for the men out there looking for the perfect fit suit, shirts, or pants, I highly recommend Indochino. Kyle and I have used this several times to get him suited up and he raves about the fit, cut, and quality of these suits. Suits starts from $350 and similar to Dress Mavens, you select your fabric, and design the style. I’m no suit connoisseur, but Indochino seems to offer a huge variety of custom make options including inner jacket lining and monogramming.
The one feature that I quite like is step by step video guides to set up an individual measurement profile. Each measurement you input, it will also make an estimate on the rest. Since you can also store this on your own profile, it allows you to make adjustments easier for your next order, i.e. if the shoulders were a little bit tight on the first order, you can easily adjust it on your profile. Shipping is also free, but globally and it is has a guarantee fit policy. If the garments don’t fit properly, you can take it to a local tailor and have them work on it and Indochino will reimburse up to $75 per order. That’s pretty sweet!
3. Shoes of Prey
Custom shoes! That’s right, Australian based Shoes of Prey offers an online service that allows the shoe-obsessed to create their own shoes! I’ve also had the pleasure to try this months ago and was 100% impressed with the quality and packaging. Each pair of shoes arrive with a dust bag, insoles and extra heel replacements. Similar to the other services I’ve mentioned, you begin with selecting your basic shoe shape (flats, flat sandals, gladiators, oxfords, booties, wedge, heels, etc.) then proceed to select your heel height, leathers, colours, soles, and extra embellishments. Here are some ready made ones for you to browse through as inspiration
Honestly, the options are endless and if you have minor OCD like me, you can spend the entire afternoon designing your pair of shoes. It is so fun though! Shipping is also included in price and there is a 365 day return or remake policy if you’re not 100% satisfied.
How amazing would this be for wedding shoes, you can totally create a pair to match the colour and theme of your wedding! I highly recommend, and the people at Shoes of Prey are so lovely!
4. May28th
Last but not least, now that you’ve got a custom made dress and a pair of self-designed shoes and a hot date sporting a custom made suit … you need to top if off with an accessory! I’ve written about May28th before here, and I want to share again how awesome they are – allowing YOU to be creative by designing the face of your own watch. You can upload essentially any photo (even directly from Instagram) or artwork, select the watch band material and colour and in a jiff, you’ve created your own funky cool watch.
If you’re not feeling too inspired, check out May28th’s own collection of ready made watches starting at $39. Custom watches start at $44, and shipping is free for orders over $75.
I have both personally designed my own watch at May28th and also have a couple of ready made ones (the flamingo and floral). Their watches are super cute and colorful, a great accessory for the summer!
