You all already know the love I have for Nespresso, I can barely go a day without a cup. But when it’s hot and humid outside, coupled with a broken air conditioner at home (it’s been over a week!), enjoying a steaming cup of coffee is not quite on the top of my morning to-do’s.
However, I’m super thrilled to share that my friends at Nespresso have come to the rescue with two Limited Edition release of coffees that have been specifically crafted to be enjoyed over ice. Intenso on Ice and Leggero on Ice are perfect to consume as black coffee but equally as delicious topped with cold milk.

Last week, as part of this exciting launch, I joined the Nespresso team and the Executive Chef of Lavelle, Chef Romain Avril for dinner to learn more about these summer-friendly refreshers and tips on how to best enjoy them. During our evening together, two workshops (mixology and food) were conducted to demonstrate the versatility of Intenso on Ice and Leggero on Ice being served as a cocktail or paired with a freshly prepared Tuna Tartar.
Best Ways to Enjoy Nespresso on Ice
Use Large Ice Cubes
Larger ice cubes tend to melt slower which means your iced coffee will stay chilled longer. I prefer using the large square cubed silicon ice trays, they make perfectly shaped ice cubes and the cubes are very easy to remove.
Two Servings for Intensity
If you prefer a more intense flavour, use two Intenso on Ice or Leggero on Ice capsules instead of one before serving over ice.
Top with Milk for a Smooth Silky Finish
Though these limited edition capsules are wonderfully refreshing consumed black, I prefer mine prepared as a Macchiato with a splash of cold milk or cold milk froth. When Intenso on Ice is paired with milk, it reveals a velvety and creamy texture with biscuit notes while Leggero on Ice is more milky and sweet.
Transform into a Cocktail
Typically, when I hear coffee cocktail, I only have visions of an Irish Coffee. However, during our mixology workshop at the launch event, Chris Anderson, Lavelle Head Mixologist shared an alluring and easy to make cocktail recipe with us. All you need is:
- 1 oz Nespresso Leggero on Ice
- 5 oz Bourbon
- 5 oz Galliano Vanilla Liquer
- Muddled Mint
- Splash of simply syrup
Pair with a Refreshing Dish
Chef Avril has worked at many Michelin Star restaurants in his career. It was such a great opportunity to share an evening of food, cocktails and coffee with him! During the food pairing workshop, he demonstrated a Tuna Tartar recipe that would pair great with Nespresso on Ice.
Ever since my involvement with Nespresso over a year ago now, I’ve met many great chefs and sommeliers and learned so much about food and coffee pairings. It’s honestly been such an eye-opening experience for me and I’m so grateful to the Nespresso team for always putting together stellar yet educational events and workshops and inviting me to partake in them.
