Today’s post is one of my favourites as I’ve been hoping to update our living room since we moved in about two years ago. Artemano invited me to partake in a room makeover, and this was the perfect opportunity for our living room to get a facelift! Investing in a few key pieces of furniture and some fine details can honestly come a long way! You just need to stick to your vision and make sure you bring in pieces that solve your room’s challenges!

Before
When we first moved into our house, as part of the purchase, we acquired a 70 inch television which was pre-mounted on the wall as well as a standard black lacquered media unit (not very easy to keep clean!). At the time, it made total sense to keep the media unit as it matched the width of our massive television, however I was never a fan of the unit. The unit had exposed shelving which doesn’t allow for tucking things away neatly, especially Kyle’s gaming systems, controllers, and exposed wires!
Over the last year and during the time of our wedding, we also accumulated many trinkets and a mismatch of décor elements that made its way to this room. They were neither masculine, feminine, eclectic nor modern. The room became a catch all.
In addition, when we first moved in, I made a quick decision to bring in an area rug for mostly functional and practical reasons, but certainly lacked style. It was a great starter rug, however, the warm brown tones absorbed most of the natural light that came through our patio doors (not ideal).
Seeing that we spend most of our evening and weekends relaxing in this space, it was time to introduce welcoming and inviting décor elements into the living area that reflect the personalities of both my husband and I and a new media unit that kept all our electronics hidden, worked with our television size as well as easy to clean with a touch of unique character.
After
I visited the Artemano store at Shops on Don Mills and the staff there was able to assist me with selecting a couple of key furniture items including this beautiful light brown Indian Rosewood TV media unit as well as a studded fabric arm chair (in stores only, but similar style available online). Introducing an armchair allowed us to add more seating in the living space which meant more comfort for our guests. It also created a nice divider between the living and dining area.
I love the wood furniture items from Artemano, they are all hand-crafted and each piece is unique and original. The natural tones from the wood within the TV/media console, opened up the light within the room and made the space brighter. Our electronics are now hidden behind the glass doors within the unit which reduced the amount of clutter and messiness. The wood surface is also super easy to clean, which is bonus!
In addition to the two centerstage pieces, I also picked up two awesome accent furniture items which I am totally obsessed with. The first is the hand embroidered decorative poof which I use as a footstool under the coffee table or as extra seating when visitors stop by. The second is a wool top stool which can act as extra seating, a foot rest or the perfect ‘tv-dinner’ companion tucked in front of the couch. I honestly just love them both!
When I visited the Artemano store, I was also offered tea while I was there. I spotted this ceramic tea set and thought it was lovely.
The finale of this living room makeover was bringing a rug that tied the whole living space together. Artemano carries some textiles but not rugs, therefore after doing some extensive online browsing, I ordered this shag rug from Lowes online. Don’t you just love it?!
And of course, no living space is complete without a special bespoke flower arrangement. This masterpiece is courtesy of my dear friend Sarah from DeLight Floral + Design. Sarah stopped by my place just before Therese (ARTIESE Fine Art Photography) shot these photos to create this special beauty. I’m so blessed to be surrounded by such talented friends!
I hope you enjoyed this living room makeover and perhaps inspired to tackle a makeover of your own this Spring. It sure is refreshing!
Stay tuned for a special DIY evening I’m hosting at the Artemano Shops on Don Mills store later this month. I’ll be leading a miniature succulent workshop!
