Since coming back from Iceland last week (and stay tuned for my FULL post on my trip coming up soon!) my house has been a complete disaster! The guestroom is piled up with laundry, the bedroom is covered in dust, the bathtub is full of soap scum and the kitchen? Don’t get me started! Dirty dishes in the sink, clean dishes trapped in the dishwasher and the list goes on. I’m sure, like me, you’ve experienced the overwhelming amount of cleaning you need to tackle just as the weekend approaches.
Believe it or not, as much as I find the act of cleaning relaxing, there was just so much to handle this past weekend. Luckily, like most of you, I find short cuts and products that I love to help me do the dirty (pun intended) job.

My Top 5 Cleaning Tips
1. Find a Multi-Surface Cleaner
Cleaning shouldn’t be complicated, that’s why I always opt for multi-surface cleaners. It not only reduces the number of unnecessary products but it also saves plenty of time and money. I’ve recently been giving the Pine-Sol Lavender Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner a try and particularly found the positive difference in terms of cleaning power and effectiveness of this product on various surfaces. I have a marble back splash and found that this cleaner, when diluted is very safe to use.
2. Use a Spray Bottle
If you are using a concentrated formula such as the Pine-Sol Lavender Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner, be sure to invest in or recycle spray bottles so that you can prepare diluted versions for different cleaning purposes. I usually make my spray bottles ahead of time and have them handy in the kitchen and bathroom. From time to time, I also like to add a few other natural ingredients such as lemon, sage, or mint in my diluted bottles for an extra zing!
3. Disinfect and Deodorize
Selecting products that disinfects and makes your place smell Spring-time fresh is also important. I remember purchasing cleaning products before where I absolutely hated the smell of it. And no matter how spotless the house ended up, it felt dirty! Scents like Lavender and Mango Mandarin are great choices all year-round!
4. Door Knobs and Handles
With flu season fast approaching, don’t forget to say goodbye to germs that are often transferred via door knobs and handle pulls. I know that I forget to clean these areas from time to time. It’s a really simple step in your cleaning process that is sure to pay off. Pour concentrated Multi-Surface cleaner onto sponge and apply directly on surface for 10 minutes. Wipe off excess and rinse with water.
Last tip but not least, after a morning (and hopefully not a full day) of cleaning, sit back with a cup of coffee and relax because you deserve it! I hope you found some of these cleaning tips useful, I’d love to hear what you’ve got up your sleeve when it comes to keeping your home spotless and “hiring a cleaner” doesn’t count!
