Being Thanksgiving today, I can’t help but think about all the things I’m grateful for. I’m especially thankful for the friends and family in my life. However, I am also thankful for the fine little things that exist in life—those simple pleasures that can add a smile to my face on a rough day.
What’s your “Joie de Vivre”?
Here are my Five (Happy) Things:
1. A great-smelling perfume
A great scent can do wonders when I’m feeling a little blue. It acts as an instant pick-me-up—similar to a cup of coffee, but with the packaging that’s so darn cute. Bonus!
I decided to have some fun with my new bottle of Prada Forale and took a few shots with this amazingly pretty backdrop I picked up at a stationary store (oh, that makes me happy too!) in New York a couple of weeks back.
What is your absolute favourite scent?
2. Fresh blooms from the market
By far my most favourite ‘errand’ to run on the weekends is picking up fresh flowers for the house. I love playing the role of a florist, and rarely purchase them pre-arranged. My childhood dream was to open a florwer shop of my own, and seeing as that dream isn’t likely going to come true (though you never know!), making my own miniature arrangements is a source of particular satisfaction.
These were an assortment of single stems I purchased from the Toronto Floral Market; they are perfect in mason jars and having a few scattered around the house just makes me so happy!
3. A Box of Macarons
I have some major love for French macorons, especially when they’re from my favourite bakery of all time: Laduree. There is something about the way they smell, the way they look, and the way they taste; even a tiny bite makes me feel delightful! It certainly helps that they are also packaged in the prettiest boxes of all. I always pick up a special box just for decorating purposes.
These were spotted during my visit to Laduree during my recent trip to Soho, NY. The girlfriends and I spent an afternoon sipping on specialty coffee, munching on brunch, and topped it off with a couple of macarons.
4. A Glimpse of the Morning Sun
I must admit, as the days get shorter, and the mornings seem to get darker, it makes it really difficult to be that morning person we all strive to be! That’s why I absolutely appreciate sunny mornings. I really love the rays and reflections it casts in our bedroom.
Recently, on a beautiful morning, I caught the sun rays shine through our window and reflect off my nightstand lamp. I was too giddy inside not to capture this moment. What a great start to a work day!
5. Unexpected Surprises
Who doesn’t love surprises? Little or big, unexpected surprises are an instant boost and make me appreciate the wonderful people in my life. My girlfriend, Linda, was way too thoughtful and sent me away with this special engagement package, following her own engagement a few days before mine. It honestly put an instant smile on my face!
Thank you, my dear, for including some of my most adored items – bubbly and magazine? Yes please!
I’d love to hear about what makes you happy! Please share!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!
Prada’s latest fragrance evolved from the concept of an imaginary flower created especially for Candy. Of course, Candy cannot simply have any flower. Her flower has to be wondrous and sophisticated, bursting with life and sensuality as Candy herself.
Light airy top notes put the sparkle in Candy, tender powdery heart notes echo her Spring-like grace, and a whisper of warmth and honey reflect Candy’s sensuality.
