The holiday season is by far the busiest time of the year for our family. Between wrapping up campaigns and the work year, last minute gift shopping and getting the house ready for intimate family gatherings, the last thing I’ve got time to do is whipping up elaborate snacks and meals for my hungry toddler during his holiday break from daycare! If you too have a child at home, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that meal time can often be a battle. Their preferences change on the daily and well, sometimes they’re just so distracted with all the activities happening around them. What if I told you you can prepare a meal in minutes while combining a bit of fun and learning with a kid friendly option they’ll enjoy?
In comes Chef Boyardee ABC 123, a hearty, meatless canned pasta made with no artificial colours or flavours. I grew up snacking on Chef Boyardee classics, so this brings back nostalgic memories for me. I remember my sister would amp it up by adding toppings to her creations.
For little Everett, I like to serve it up with toasted bread croutons (I cut them in different shapes) and sprinkle some fresh parmesan on top. But you can also add in extra vegetables to it, although Chef Boyardee ABC 123 already has 1 full serving of vegetables per can (based on Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating), which is great for those picky eaters that refuse veggies at home.
Since Everett has taken interest in learning the alphabet and words lately, we’ve also made meal time extra fun with this canned pasta by encouraging him to match letters and words using his wooden letters. What a great way to get him focused during meal time while contributing to his learning and vocabulary!
I hope this meal idea puts a few minutes back into your busy schedule!
