I recently participated in a great LBD contest hosted by FAJO Magazine for VAWK and eBay Canada. All the ladies who entered the contest were stunning! Though I didn’t end up winning it got me thinking about the LBD some more.
There are certain items that every stylish woman needs in her wardrobe. Fashion followers and the world’s top designers often say that perhaps the ultimate key piece in any wardrobe is the Little Black Dress.
This classic sartorial staple is much-loved for its versatility. It often provides that much-needed solution for those annoying days when nothing else looks quite right. From the glamour of floor-sweeping evening maxi dresses to the daytime chic of a simple shift dress, the LBD is easy to dress up or down, depending on the occasion.
Women who want to look smart at work often find that a LBD forms the basis of their working wardrobe. Paired with a coat, tights and boots in the winter, and with a scarf and sandals in the warmer months, a black dress is worth its weight in gold for versatility and cost-per-wear. It’s also useful for going out straight after a day at the office, as it can be dressed up with some glittery earrings or simple high heels and even just a dash of red lipstick.
Who can forget Audrey Hepburn’s iconic Givenchy LBD, accessorized with strands of pearls and a huge hat, in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Audrey’s appearance paved the way forward for well-cut, classic dresses in the 1960s. It’s no wonder that today a simple black dress can really stand out in a crowd as the epitome of chic. Celebrities often favour the LBD when they’re on the red carpet or attending a party where they know they will be snapped by the paparazzi, as nothing else is really quite as flattering to a woman’s figure.
For example, actress and television presenter Lynda Bellingham, 64, told the Daily Express: “I am one of those people who finds it easier to dress up than down…I have several Little Black Dresses in my wardrobe and as long as it has sleeves to cover my arms and fits in all the right places, I don’t think there is anything easier to carry off.” So, take a leaf out of her book and flaunt your LBD.
What our your thoughts on the LBD? Is it your go-to item when in doubt? What style do you most favourite? I’d love to hear from you, please share with me by commenting below!

I think the LBD is such a great staple for everything from date nights to weddings! And all you need is to change up the accessories for a totally different look. I even featured one today for under $100.
